MEET BRITTA: MUSE, MOTHER, ARTIST.

BRITTA: A VISUAL ARTIST

Step into Britta's abode of creative freedom; her studio. Located on the shores of Manly Beach, witness the visual artist in her element of soulful searching, self-expression and her new discovery to feminine energy. Britta explores a new conscious of thought, reflection and subtle beauty, inviting us into her world of evocative strokes and earthy hues.

Wearing a curated selection of Resort 21, Britta is our latest muse of inspiration and reflection of ‘A Return To Origin’ symbolic of tamed chaos, a re-connection to earth and a restoration of natural order.

How do you best document your ideas? Pen to paper or the digital world?
______________________________

"I've always carried around a little sketchbook with me in the past, but lately, everything has shifted over to digital. Notes on my iPhone are bursting at the seams, and images/photo's are filed away 'project' folders etc. I've learnt that I needed to marry unbridled creativity with some form of structure or system. I’d say it's a much more organised process of creative flow now that I’ve moved over to digital".

Where is your source of inspiration?
______________________________________

"Usually a project or body of work will be parallel to a larger life cycle or experience I am moving through at the time. So my source of inspiration changes and evolves as much as I do. I’m currently being absorbed in a world of feminine energy, ritual and concepts of connection, choices, temperament and balance. It’s been a very beautiful space of contemplation for me this year".

Do you have a favourite medium to use?

"The mediums I end up favouring usually embody some form of self reflexivity. They will carry the expression of the body of work I am developing. At the moment, I am having a lot of fun exploring raw pigments, graphite and colour washes".

What does your colour palette say about you as an artist?
______________________________

"I’ve found it so fascinating observing the evolution of my work over the years. The new series colour palette is very much reflective of subtle beauty, delicacy, inner landscapes and the intricacies of feminine energy. I feel this new found sense of maturity speaks volumes about who I am stepping into as an artist, and where I am at this point in my life. Honestly, I look forward to walking into my studio space every morning with this softer colour palette, it’s incredibly southing for the soul."

What does it mean to be an artist during this day of age? Has downtime worked to your favour?
______________________________

"I feel we have more freedom to express ourselves than ever before. So it’s a beautiful time to be creating, there’s no pressure on you or the work you produce. The only limitations are the ones we place on ourselves.
To be honest, I haven’t had any downtime during the Covid Pandemic, my day-to-day work life in the studio has been very much the same. I’m still busy creating, exploring, refining and experimenting as much as ever."

Do you have a playlist you can share with us?
______________________________

"Yes! The ‘Butter’ playlist on Spotify is my go-to ambiance in the Studio. The name says it all, it’s slow soulful beats that will melt you into the moment, a creative flow or to just help to unwind the mental chatter during the day."

We absolutely adored your journals on shoot, tell us about your side project, St. Soleil?
______________________________________

"Oh my goodness. So, St. Soleil started from a little passion project I worked on a couple of years ago (an Astrology Based Oracle and Book). I had absolutely no intentions of it ever becoming anything really, let alone it’s own entity. The project gained so much traction that I needed to seperate it under it’s own brand, which is when St. Soleil was officially born. It’s the sacred space where my spiritual self and inner mystic can freely express themselves. St. Soleil encourages connection to self, navigation of our experiences here on Earth and a connection to what lay just beyond (from Astrology based journals, to mindfulness tools, and Oracle Decks)."

What's next?

"A solo exhibition, I think it’s about time! I’m feeling really excited about the idea of presenting a completed body of work next year. So, watch this space!"
